CertainTeed Shingle Repair: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

CertainTeed shingle repair in Los Angeles typically runs $425 to $1,150 installed depending on how many shingles failed, whether the underlying decking or underlayment is compromised, and how steep or cut-up your roof is. Most single-area repairs on CertainTeed asphalt shingle roofs finished since 2010 take a crew under a day once we’re on site. What we usually see on the first call: a homeowner finds granules in a downspout or a dark patch on the ceiling after a Santa Ana wind event, and the shingle that gave way is almost never the only one that took damage.

Brennan Roofing is an independent roofing contractor, not a CertainTeed dealer or affiliate. We stock CertainTeed-compatible replacement shingles because so many Los Angeles homes were reroofed with them in the 2000s and 2010s, and matching the existing roof matters more than most homeowners expect.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

This page covers repair scenarios on the three CertainTeed asphalt shingle lines we see most in Los Angeles: XT 25, Landmark, and Presidential Shake. The XT 25 is the three-tab shingle that went on thousands of starter homes from the Valley down to Long Beach. Landmark is the architectural laminate most common on re-roofs after about 2005. Presidential Shake is the heavy luxury shingle you see on custom homes in the hills, and it acts differently under wind load than the lighter lines.

Here’s a compatibility gotcha most people never hear until a roofer tells them: CertainTeed has changed shingle dimensions and exposure over the years within the same model name. A Landmark shingle from 2026 is not dimensionally identical to a Landmark from 2008. If your roof is older than about eight years, a faithful color match is more realistic than a perfect dimensional match. When we can’t get the exact discontinued stock, we source an aftermarket equivalent with the same weight, exposure, and granule color, and we tell you before we install anything which route we’re taking. The part number you’d check against is printed on the wrapper of every bundle, not on the shingle itself, so unless you saved a bundle from the original install or have a record from the original roofer, identification usually comes down to our field measurement and a color match against CertainTeed’s current palette.

Signs Your CertainTeed Shingle Repair Is Failing

  • Granules collecting in gutters or at downspout outlets. CertainTeed shingles shed granules as the asphalt surface ages in direct sun. A light dusting is normal; a visible pile of granules means the mat is eroding and the shingle is near the end of its protective life.
  • Visible curling, especially along the rake edges that get afternoon sun. UV exposure on one side of a Los Angeles roof degrades shingles unevenly. Curling means the asphalt is losing flexibility, and the next step is usually a corner tearing off in wind.
  • Water staining on ceilings or in the attic after a hard rain. A stained ceiling doesn’t tell you which shingle failed, only that one did. We have to trace the leak path from the interior stain to the roof surface, and the actual damage is often several feet uphill from where you’d think.
  • Missing shingles after wind, especially if you have a Presidential Shake or Landmark over an open eave. Wind-driven uplift peels shingles starting at corners and edges. If you can see bare decking from the street, that roof is taking on water and needs a repair call, not a visual inspection from the yard.
  • Raised nail heads or “nail pops” you can feel when walking the roof. Seasonal expansion and contraction in Southern California slowly works fasteners loose. A popped nail leaves a gap behind the shingle surface, and each one is a potential entry point for the next heavy rain.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles as of 2026, a focused CertainTeed shingle repair runs these ranges:

  • Single damaged shingle replacement: $425 to $600, including the shingle, fastener replacement, and sealant at adjoining tabs.
  • Small area repair up to roughly 100 square feet: $650 to $1,150, depending on decking condition, scaffolding or steep-slope safety equipment, and whether we have to cut out and replace underlayment or flashing in the repair zone.
  • Decking replacement behind a failed shingle area: add $90 to $150 per 4-by-8 sheet if water has rotted the plywood or OSB.

Every Brennan Roofing repair price goes on paper before any work starts, and that number doesn’t move at the door. The price includes our technician’s labor, disposal of the bad material, a written line-item breakdown, and the full 365-Day Done Right Promise. That promise is in writing: if the repair fails within one full year, we return and fix it at no charge. You won’t chase us; we come back.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things from the ground: whether shingles are visibly missing or flipped up, whether gutters are packed with granule grit, and whether stain rings appear on ceilings after rain. You should not be on a pitched roof with a hammer in one hand and a bundle of shingles in the other unless you do it for a living. Steep-slope work in Los Angeles is a fall hazard, and the kind of failure that lets water behind a shingle usually involves not just the visible tab but the sealant strip, the fastener pattern, and the underlayment beneath it. A homeowner swap that looks fine from the street can leak inside the next rainy season.

If you’re on the fence, call us at (361) 320-9467. We’ll give you a straight read on whether it’s a repair or a sign the roof has reached the end of its service life. Travis Oakley built Brennan Roofing on the idea that a roof either needs fixed correctly or left alone until it does.
